The Murmur of a Brook – Josh Rosebrook

Plants and herbs are the real, original source of active, vital nutrients for the body. The potent extracts, oils, and essences of pure, whole plants offer the highest level of rejuvenation and regeneration available to the skin, scalp, and hair when professionally formulated.

These words from Josh’s homepage really stand for his products and can be experienced using his creations.

Indeed, every single plant ingredient is 100 % organic, certified organic or wild crafted.

What’s the difference?

Wildcrafted means found in the wild, not farmed, and certified organic means farmed, planted, not wild, but certified by some supervising authority. Josh is absolutely super scrupulous and transparent with the ingredients. This attitude proofs that his creations not only have the highest imaginable  quality but are real green and clean products.

This philosophy reflects perfectly the thoughts of Green Soul Cosmetics, a true green beauty shop – you will not find any green washed products here.

But let’s return to some of Josh’s creations.

First, I would like to talk about the NUTRIENT DAY CREAM TINTED SPF 30.

No water or alcohol in this product, but a nice and moisturizing base of Aloe Vera Leaf Juice.

Further your skin will be spoilt by Evening Primrose Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Borage Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil,Almond Oil, Sesame Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grape Seed Oil & Broccoli Oil.

The plants used in this tinted Day Cream are Calendula, Bilberry, Chamomile, Burdock, Rosemary, Dandelion, Rose Hips, Catnip, Chickweed, Neem, Skullcap, Ginkgo Leaf, Linden Flower, Hawthorn Berry, Green Tea, Flax, Nettle, Sage, Marshmallow Root, Cayenne, Ginseng, Peppermint.

I could write an essay about the benefits of every single ingredient, let’s take a closer look to some of them.

Hemp seed oil is such a potent ingredient – it moisturizes without clogging the pores. The contained  gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory, encouraging also skin growth and new cell generation. This is especially helpful for reducing fine lines as well as preventing  signs of aging from developing.

Broccoli seed oil is moisturizing and nourishing. Interesting fact – it’s a natural source of retinol. The Vitamin A contained in Broccoli seed oil helps the skin to renew itself faster – the perfect anti-aging companion. Many retinoid or retinol products can cause undesirable side effects, not so Broccoli Seed Oil.

Broccoli seed oil contains sulforaphane up-regulated enzymes that protect you skin against damage by UV radiation.

Let’s take a closer look at two of the plants – Skullcap, a member of the mint family, is a very efficient antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, further  it’s able  to inhibit melanin synthesis and protect against sun damage.

Marshmallow Root is another well chosen ingredient – studies show that this root prevents photoageing and/or potential skin carcinogenesis. Further it helps with healing and reduces skin inflammation.

Although those ingredients are very appropriate for a SPF Cream, the “real” SPF is provided by

12% Zinc Oxide (Non Nano, Uncoated, Micronized). Zinc oxide is unique because it  is truly a broad-spectrum blocker – it protects from UVA, UVB, and even UVC.

Can you see how smart Josh has chosen the ingredients of his natural SPF?

Well, this was a small glimpse into the ingredients, now my personal thoughts.

The SFP has a very light color which is nearly invisible on your skin, but evens your skin tone. The texture is very smooth and I love how it applies.

It has a nice, pleasant and delicate scent, but honestly I can’t give it a name. It’s so subtle, that I think this product is suitable also for people reacting to scents.

Josh Rosebrook’s Nutrient Day Cream is a real winner on all fronts. I can highly recommend it.

Another discovery is the ACTIVE ENZYME EXFOLIATOR.

This dual-action exfoliation is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin.

We have an exfoliation by  herbal enzymes and acids and one given manually by  finely ground, round walnut shells.

But let’s take a closer look to the Papaya Enyzme, called Papain. It is very effective in skin renewal and skin lightening. It removes dead skin, and as an exfoliator, makes your skin soft and moisturized. Further, the enzyme helps to combat free radicals aka premature ageing.

I love honey based masks, so this was a good base for our “friendship”.

Honey removes dead skin in a nonabrasive way and without disturbing the complexion’s delicate acid mantle.

Alfalfa is another very interesting ingredient –  known as the ‘father of all foods’, due to its Arabic name ‘al-fac-facah’.

Alfalfa chlorophyll is rich in Vitamin A and enzymes, making your skin healthy and glowing.

Fo-ti (Fallopia multiflora or Polygonum multiflorum) is a Chinese herbal medicine that’s derived from a plant that primarily grows in China, Japan, Tibet and Taiwan.

Fo-ti is used to treat acne, sores, dermatitis, razor burn and scrapes and protects the skin thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

Turmeric is another miracle ingredient. Curcumin – one of the most important active compounds found in turmeric – is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral powerhouse.

Tumeric speeds up skin healing and as it contains fatty acids and phytosterols, this super ingredient  reduces excess skin oils.

Tumeric is also a sun damage protection, it was shown to prevent many of the negative effects of exposure to ultraviolet B radiation.

Another brief insight into ingredients, now let’s see my personal thoughts.

Josh Rosebrook’s Active Enzyme Exfoliator is a lovely and well performing product.

I love the herbal scent and texture of this exfoliator.

How do I use it?

The first step is applying a face mist.

Immediately after application, I massage the mask in circular motions onto my skin. Having sensitive skin, I keep the mask on my face for about 15 min (you can keep it up to 1 hour), rinsing it off with warm water.

My skin feels soft and very smooth, ready for a face mist and a nice serum/face oil.

Let me repeat myself – this Active Enzyme Exfoliator is a real winner on all fronts (yes, we have two winners here in this skincare battle) and you should definitely give it a try.

Josh Rosebrook products not only are highly effective but the philosophy & heart of the person behind are equally convincing me of the bravura of Josh and his masterpieces.
